Darlon
Hareline Darlon is a bundle of parallel synthetic fibres supplied in 7-inch hanks. It can be used for light spinner and spent wings, Comparadun wings and tails, parachute posts, trailing shucks, wing cases and streamer wings. The fibres can be gathered into a controlled bundle, making it possible to adjust the amount, profile and length to the fly being tied.
Construction and use
Select a small, even section from the hank and align the tips, or taper the bundle when the pattern calls for a finer profile. Secure it with controlled thread wraps rather than compressing the whole hank at once. For upright wings, divide the fibres above the hook shank and bind each side securely before adding the hackle; for spent wings, spread the fibres laterally. Trim the finished ends to proportion. Matching the bundle carefully and keeping the wing moderate in width helps reduce twisting during casting.
