Wapsi Opossum is a fur patch made from possum fur with soft underfur and longer guard hairs. The fur can be used for dubbing, fur bodies, collars, and selected longer fibres added to a fly structure.

Construction and use

Take a small portion from the patch and separate the guard hairs from the underfur according to the pattern. Use the underfur on the thread or in a dubbing loop, while leaving some guard hairs in the mix or selecting them separately. After winding the dubbing, brush the surface with Velcro or a dubbing brush and trim projecting fibres to the planned shape.

  • Form: fur patch rather than prepared dubbing thread.
  • Bodies: for fur-bodied fly patterns.
  • Finishing: for dubbed collars and selected projecting fibres.
